Some online slots make every effort to avoid mentioning the actual subject of the game and that’s clearly the case with Playtech’s Archer; everything about it screams ‘Robin Hood’ including the theme and the secondary characters but we have to make do with the generic ‘Archer’ if we want to play it. Still, it has a couple of bonus features and a gamble feature so read the full review below for more information.
Archer is a five reel slot with three rows and 243 ways to win; winning combinations are formed as long as you can land matching symbols in adjacent reels starting from the left hand side. Graphically it’s quite basic withe the reels spinning on some sort of hessian material; the backdrop features a glowing red sun setting behind what is presumably Sherwood Forest.
The high value symbols are unnamed but we’re going to stick our necks out and call them Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck and the Sheriff of Nottingham; 9, 10, J, Q, K and A make up the lower values.
The wild symbols is a massive pile of gold and the scatter is represented by a pair of crossed, flaming arrows.
Bonus Features
Expand & Spilt
Some symbols on the reels will include an ‘arrow border’ when they land and this can be important because if a scatter symbol lands anywhere on the reels the one with the ‘arrow border’ will expand to fill all vertical positions. The positions it covers will then become a shared symbol (this is the split), offering more winning opportunities.
Free Spins
Landing three or more of the crossed arrow scatter symbols anywhere in view will award seven free spins which can be re-triggered indefinitely by landing more scatters.
The extra bonus here is that the Expand & Split feature is active but here it does not need to be activated by a scatter, meaning that any symbols with a border will expand & split! Groovy!
Gamble Feature

Verdict
Archer won’t make our top five Robin Hood slots list but it’s worth a few spins; we particularly like the Expand & Split feature and it can earn some big wins within the free spins. The RTP is a healthy 96.78%.
