We always like to check out an online slot from a new company and here that’s Elk Studios; based in Stockholm, Elk only have a handful of games released so far and The Lab is one of those. It’s a sci-fi themed game with an innovative bonus feature and it’s the first time we’ve seen the facility to automatically play certain betting strategies.
The Lab is a five reel slot with fifteen fixed paylines and all the action takes place against the backdrop of a swirling vortex centred on the middle position on reel two.
There are eight main symbols, four of which are sparkling minerals – pink, purple, blue and green. The others are element symbols – Au (Gold), Pt (Platinum), O2 (Oxygen) and H2O (Water).
The Lab symbol is both the wild and the bonus symbol; the big ‘X’ will multiply any wins by 2x – more Xs mean more multipliers.
Bonus Features
Free Spins
To trigger the free spins feature you will need to land The Lab symbol in the centre of the vortex on reel two. Two extra reels will appear on the left, meaning that the others slide to the right. The Lab symbol now appears in the centre of reel four and acts as a wild still.
The spins start automatically and there’a chance you will land +1 or +2 symbols on reels one or two, adding that number of spins to your total.
Betting Strategies
This is where things get interesting and Elk Studios have identified three different betting strategies popular with players. Briefly these are:
- Jumper – raise on win: betting increases by 2x on each win up to a maximum of 10x original bet. Losing resets the bet level.
- Leveller – bet level increases 2 levels after 5 losses in a row to maximum 10x original bet. Winning resets the bet.
- Booster – betting increases by 1 level after each loss to a maximum of 10x original bet. Winning resets the bet.
You can select these strategies by clicking the ‘BET’ button after which the betting will change to the appropriate level on each spin. The video above demonstrates the Booster betting strategy.
The Lab Online Slot Playing Tips
The betting strategies are interesting and entertaining but your chances of winning won’t be any higher over a certain period of gameplay. The RTP of 96.30% won’t change.

This is something different and we like it; it looks and sounds good, the feature is interesting and the betting strategies add a welcome extra. Well worth trying out.
