We’ve reviewed plenty of online slot machines based on nursery rhymes and here we have one more to add to the list; Jack and Jill is obviously a nod to the famous children’s ditty which runs as follows:
Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after
This new slot from Microgaming takes the original storyline, makes Jack and Jill a little older and makes no bones about the fact that the pair are actually headed up the hill for a romantic meeting. This five reel and twenty payline slot uses the standard playing cards to represent the low value symbols but the others are related to the narrative.
Symbols include a first aid kit (no brown paper and vinegar here), Jack falling over next to a topless Jill, a well on which hangs some discarded underwear, Jack and Jill together and then the pair on separate symbols. The wild symbol is Jack and Jill and the scatter is a bucket of water. You can make you own mind up as to whether the pair actually climb into the well for their hanky-panky although the pictures would suggest so.
Bonus Features
Free Spins
Landing three, four or five of the bucket scatter symbols will grant you entry to the bonus game; there’s not too much variation here but you’ll get 15 free spins and a 4x multiplier on all winning combinations formed within this phase.
Jack and Jill Wild
This is a wild symbol that does a little more than just substitute to make a winning combination; when it’s part of a successful combo it will apply a 2x multiplier to that win, making it even more valuable.
Verdict
Although Microgaming don’t add much to the genre in terms of creativity here, Jack and Jill is a refreshing retelling of the old nursery rhyme and the symbols are amusing and attractive at the same time. In our experience the bonus game seems relatively easy to access and there’s an ‘expert’ setting at the bottom of the screen where you can switch on Autoplay among other things.
The various wagering options mean you can bet £0.01 on just one payline up to £100 with all settings maxed out.
