Star Trek is one of the most popular science fiction television series ever produced and an online slot machine based on that show was clearly a good idea waiting to happen. What’s refreshing about Star Trek Red Alert from WMS Gaming is that it eschews subsequent series following the original and every thing about this slot is to do with Kirk, Spock et al.
The backdrop to this five reel and twenty five payline slot makes you think you are travelling through space as the stars drift past you and that view remains as the reels spin. All the symbols are Star Trek related so we have a phaser, a communicator, a tricorder, a Klingon ship, a Klingon, Scotty, Spock, Captain Kirk and some rank insignias. Win Warp
This bonus is awarded randomly when the player creates a winning combo and there are four possible features available:
- Rock Wild – the rock creature appears and dumps a multiplying wild somewhere on the reels.
- Scotty’s Wild – Scotty covers one or two reels completely with wilds.
- Spock Multiplier – Spock will multiply the win randomly from 3x – 10x.
- Enterprise Fly-By – the Starship Enterprise will fly across the screen, changing the winning combo symbols to one of the main characters.
Star Trek Medals
You will notice at the top of the screen that more episodes are available if you can collect medals; medals are awarded each time the feature is triggered. Collecting enough therefore takes some time and your account will save your progress each time you return to play the game.
Red Alert Bonus Game
This game is triggered by landing three or more of the Feature symbols anywhere on the reels and it’s an unlimited free spin-type game. Each winning combo you create will trigger the Enterprise blasting an enemy ship to uncover a multiplier for that cash prize.
Each time you do not spin a win, one of five shields is destroyed; when no more shields are left the player selects one of two communication channels with the following three options underneath:
- Spin Till You Win – the reels are respun until a last winning combo is formed.
- Shields To Full – the five shields are recharged and the features restarts.
- No Extra Spin – that’s the end of the bonus game.
Verdict
It’s great to see the old Star Trek characters and equipment featuring in this slot; the graphics are relatively basic but there’s enough bonus features to keep you coming back. If you’re a real fan the medal-collecting feature will also be a plus.
