Steampunk is an interesting genre and we’ve seen several online slots in this category recently; The Ante Engine is another addition to this theme and it’s designed by Odobo/AppleJack Gaming. All the elements are here – the Victorian atmosphere, plenty of pipes and metalwork and this game also includes a creative bonus feature to keep things interesting.
The Ante Engine is a five reel slot with three rows and fifteen paylines; those reels spin on some sort of mechanical structure with valves, pipes and plenty of cogs to keep things moving. The background contains more dials, pipes and neon blue.
There are ten base game symbols and these are of a traditional but metallic nature – the game’s logo, triple sevens, hearts, clubs, spades, diamonds, J, Q, K and A.
Bonus Features
Modifier Bulbs
There are no special symbols such as wilds or scatters in the base game and all the action revolves around these Modifier Bulbs. These appear randomly to the left of the reels and there are spaces for up to three bulbs, one per payline.
These bulbs have different uses and will remain in place for three spins. This is what they do:
- Multiplier Bulb – This is fairly self-explanatory and will multiply any wins on it’s matching payline by 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
- Wild Bulb – This will transform the first symbol on that particular payline into a wild do you’ll have a guaranteed wild on reel one for three spins.
- Free Spins – If all three bulb positions are filled up simultaneously you will trigger the free spins and the number of spins awarded depends on the brightness of the bulbs (see the free spins meter to the bottom left of the reels). During the spins an extra fifteen paylines are added to take the total to thirty.
Verdict
