The wide open plains of Africa once again await us as we check out Thunderhorn, a rhino-themed online slot from Bally Technologies. There’s no end of games packed with wild animals and safari trips so how does this one measure up against those from other developers? Keep reading to find out how to play and what we think.
Thunderhorn plays out over five reels and 1024 ways to win. There is no standard payline structure at work here; instead you will create a winning combination by landing symbols in adjacent reels starting from left to right. The backdrop to those reels is a scorching, sun-baked scene of mountains and savannah – although animals are completely lacking from this picture.
The main symbols are represented by a carved bowl, a drum, a tiger, a tribal mask and the big rhinoceros. 9, 10, J, Q, K and A are the lower values. The five main symbols may appear stacked on the reels during the base game and free spins, meaning that they can be on top of one another – combined with wilds this can result in bigger wins.
The wild symbol is a tree silhouetted against a setting sun and there’s a bonus icon represented by a big gold ‘Bonus’.
Bonus Features
Free Spins
Landing three or more of the Bonus symbols anywhere in view will award the following:
- Three bonuses – 8 free spins
- Four bonuses – 15 free spins
- Five bonuses – 20 free spins
If a wild lands anywhere on reels two, three or four it will multiply any win on that spin by 2x or 3x. Additionally more free spins can be awarded by landing more bonus symbols:
- Two bonuses – 5 free spins
- Three bonuses – 8 free spins
- Four bonuses – 15 free spins
- Five bonuses – 20 free spins
Verdict
Thunderhorn is a little dated now and it doesn’t really compare well with newer Bally slots. Still, it has some nice sound effects and it’s reasonably easy to trigger the free spins which is where the bigger wins seem to be hidden. The RTP of 94.03% is not particularly generous.
